Adriaan Hoek is a concert organist. He acquired his Master of Music degree summa cum laude at the Conservatory of Rotterdam as a student of Ben van Oosten, Bas de Vroome, Aart Bergwerff and Hayo Boerema. He studied also piano, theory of music, church music and improvisation.
He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and at the Hogeschool in Ghent. Here he followed lessons with Wolfgang Zerer, Pieter van Dijk and Ignace Michiels.
Adriaan won eight first prizes at international organ competitions Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy and America. Because of his performance at the International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar (2015) and the Grand Prix d’ECHO in Treviso (Italy 2018) he got the title ”The Young ECHO Organist of the Year” in both 2016 and 2018. This resulted in a series of concerts throughout Europe.
Since the summer of 2022 he has been the city organist of Rotterdam. Here he is the permanent player of the organs in the Doelen and the town hall. As a church musician he works in the Marekerk in Leiden.
Adriaan likes to play the entire breadth of the organ repertoire, from 15 to 21st century music. In addition he likes to combine the organ with other musicians.
